Selecting the General Practitioner of your choice, will depend on which doctors choose to join the GHS. You will be able to select from the doctors that elect to provide their services under the GHS.
As a first step, patients need to register under the name of their General Practitioner, provided that their doctor has joined the GHS and has not enrolled the maximum number of patients that is stipulated in the Law. There will be a maximum number of visits that patients can make depending on their age and should they exceed that number they will have to make an additional co-payment. Should a General Practitioner refer a patient to a Specialist, patients will have the choice to visit any Specialist who has joined the GHS. In such a case the patient will have to make a co-payment of €6 per visit.
In case the patient decides to visit a Specialist directly without a referral by his General Practitioner, there will be a charge of €25 (not considered as a co-payment).
